Linzess (linaclotide) is a guanylate cyclase-C agonist medication. It is primarily prescribed for adults with chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) and irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C).
Mechanism of action: Linzess works by increasing intestinal secretions to soften stools and improve bowel movements, reducing abdominal pain and discomfort associated with constipation.
Additional uses: Linzess is also approved for treating functional constipation (FC) in children and adolescents aged 6-17.
Form & administration: Administered by the patient as an oral capsule taken once daily. Available in 72 mcg, 145 mcg, and 290 mcg strengths. Should be taken on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before the first meal of the day.
