The Rx Advocates is a patient advocacy group. We are nationally recognized with the goal of helping lower the cost of monthly medications for our customers. This is done with our medication assistance programs. There are more than 100 pharmaceutical manufacturers’ patient assistance programs based in the United States that we help our customers with. Because of the help of these programs, we have been able to help patients save on more than 800 medications, all approved by the FDA.

When working with The Rx Advocates, patients can be confident that there will never be any hidden costs or additional fees. We do charge a monthly service fee that ranges in price from $80-$110. The number of medications a person needs assistance with is what determines this charge. After this is paid, the medications are free with no added charges.

We at The Rx Advocates do not provide medicine coupons, discount cards, or insurance. We do provide a way for our customers to get their medications at a more affordable price. This is what patients will discover while working with us; they will save money every month!

Elmiron coupon, discounts, & patient assistance FAQ's

Elmiron (pentosan polysulfate sodium) is a medication for people ages 16 and older. It is used to treat the bladder pain and discomfort associated with Interstitial Cystitis (IC).

Before taking Elmiron, a patient should make sure their doctor knows if any of the following applies to them:

  • Bleeding or blood-clotting disorder
  • Eye problems (especially retina) in the patient or family member
  • Blood clotting disorders
  • Diverticulitis, stomach ulcer, or intestinal polyps
  • Liver disease

Some medications could affect how Elmiron works. Patients should talk to their doctor if they take any of the following:

  • Anticoagulants like warfarin, Xarelto, or Eliquis
  • NSAIDs like Aleve (naproxen) or Advil (ibuprofen)

Doctors have found Elmiron to be effective in treating IC. There is currently no approved generic alternative for this medication.

Elmiron is the only FDA-approved oral medication to treat IC. There are some other medications that doctors can use to help treat the symptoms of IC and potentially help the bigger picture. Those are:

Antihistamines – these help relieve bladder pain and inflammation, frequent urination, and nighttime bathroom trips. Hydroxyzine (Atarax, Vistaril) is a common medication for this.

While we do not offer Elmiron coupons to our patients, we thought it might be helpful to explain how they work.  If a patient is prescribed Elmiron, they may head to the internet to look for a coupon to offset some of the cost. They may find several offered but the discounts are not very helpful.

The Elmiron coupons that are found would still leave the patient paying a lot of money for this medicine after a discount is applied.

There are different names for prescription drug coupons. They can be referred to as:

  • Pharmacy coupons
  • Copay coupons
  • Copay assistance coupons
  • Copay cards

Pharmaceutical companies like to back these programs financially. They want to allow the cash-paying customer to pay less for their medicine. While this seems like a good plan, there are often restrictions with this type of coupon or program. Those restrictions might include:

  • Many coupons have an expiration. This means a patient can get the discount for a short time until the coupon has expired.
  • There can often be usage limits on coupons. A patient may be able to only use it the first time they get the medicine and not on any refills.

Prescription discount cards help patients get a lower cost on their monthly medications. Whether they have insurance or not, a patient can use these to save money. However, these are often more helpful to people who are uninsured. There is no cost for these cards.

Savings programs can usually help patients save money on medicines like Elmiron. Monthly usage can greatly reduce the amount of money spent on medications.

For insured patients, prescription medicines come with a copay. There are copay assistance programs, or copay coupons, that can help patients with the cost of their copay. These programs are not for uninsured patients.

These programs can be suggested by a brand-name medication company. They want a patient or provider to pick their medication over another brand or generic alternative. An example of how this makes them money is the following:

A doctor may prescribe a medication for a patient with a brand-name cost of $575. The generic version might cost $60. Because they have insurance, their copay of $10 would apply, regardless of which medicine they get. The pharmaceutical company would pay their copay for them through a copay assistance program, attracting the patient to their medication – the brand-name medicine. This looks like a better choice to the patient. However, the remaining $495 has to be paid, and that is left to their insurance company.
