About Trulicity

Mechanism of action: Trulicity works by mimicking natural GLP-1 hormone activity, which increases insulin release when blood sugar is high, decreases glucose production by the liver, and slows stomach emptying to reduce post-meal blood sugar spikes.
Additional uses: Trulicity is also prescribed to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke, cardiovascular death) in adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors.
Form & administration: Administered by the patient as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection using a pre-filled pen. Available in 0.75 mg, 1.5 mg, 3.0 mg, and 4.5 mg doses. Should be injected on the same day each week, with or without meals.
Side effects:
- Common: nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, decreased appetite.
