Who are The Rx Advocates?

At The Rx Advocates, we are a nationally recognized prescription advocacy program. We help people get approved for over 100 patient assistance programs. These programs include 800 FDA-approved medications that people need to be healthy.

The Rx Advocates is not an insurance plan. We do not issue coupons or discount cards to take to the pharmacy. We know how to work through pharmaceutical companies’ patient assistance programs for people to get the medications they need at an affordable price. These are important medications people need to stay healthy.

Patient assistance programs are put together by pharmaceutical companies to provide people the medications they need at no cost. Patients can apply by themselves, but the process is long and can be confusing. Many people may give up before they can be approved.

The Rx Advocates work with people and their doctors to put together all the information to apply for the patient assistance programs. Then we submit the application and follow up with each pharmaceutical company to make sure the process is moving along.

After the pharmaceutical company approves the application, we continue to take care of any additional paperwork. This includes any refills; patients will not have to go without their medications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Onglyza (saxagliptin) is an oral diabetes medication. It is used together with diet and exercise to control blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. Onglyza works by regulating insulin production levels after the patient eats a meal.

Diabetes is a disease that occurs when the level of blood glucose (blood sugar) is too high. The body turns the food that is eaten into glucose to be used for energy. When the blood glucose level goes up, the pancreas releases insulin. Insulin allows the glucose to go into the body’s cells to be used for energy.

Having too much glucose in the bloodstream for a long time can cause problems later. High blood glucose can lead to kidney damage, nerve damage, and blindness. In type 2 diabetes the pancreas makes insulin, but the body does not use it properly.

This leads to high blood glucose levels. Sometimes type 2 diabetes can be managed with diet and exercise. Some patients may need more help and use medications like Onglyza.

There are some people who should not use Onglyza. It is not approved for use by anyone under the age of 18. Patients with type 1 diabetes should not use Onglyza. This medication should not be used by someone experiencing diabetic ketoacidosis, which is a medical emergency.

There are other medications that are approved by the FDA to treat type 2 diabetes. These medications include:

As of September 2022, the average retail cost of Onglyza is $556.40.

There are a few reasons why one patient may pay a higher or lower price than someone else.

  • Costs of living are different in varying parts of the country.
  • Which pharmacy the patient uses can affect the price they pay.
  • Insurance makes a big difference in prices, especially if the patient does not have insurance.

It comes as a tablet in 2.5mg or 5mg. It is taken by mouth, with or without food.

At The Rx Advocates, we do not offer prescription drug coupons. We would like to explain how a coupon works. When a patient is prescribed Onglyza, they may do an internet search for a coupon.

This is a reasonable activity as prescriptions can be expensive. Some patients cannot continue to take the medication if they do not find a lower price. This is especially true if they are taking multiple medications every day. However, coupons do not always have the highest amount of savings available.

An Onglyza coupon may save someone a little bit of money, but they will still have a large out-of-pocket cost. Even with this coupon, some patients cannot afford to get their diabetes medication.

Often coupons may only be used one time then patients will have to pay the full price. Some coupons have great deals for the first month of using the prescription, but then patients have to pay the full price in the following months.

Through The Rx Advocates

At The Rx Advocates, our goal is to help patients get all of the monthly medications they need at a price they can afford. We know how expensive prescription medications can be. This is especially true for patients who do not have health insurance.

Patient assistance programs are a huge benefit to people without health insurance. These programs can also help patients that do have health insurance save money. Sometimes health insurance does not cover brand-name medications.

There is no generic version of Onglyza. If a patient meets the income guidelines, they may be able to qualify for the patient assistance program even with health insurance.
