Access the NovoLog patient assistance program with The Rx Advocates

Do you want to know how the NovoLog patient assistance program can help you save more? The Rx Advocates is a prescription advocacy program that helps people receive their monthly medication supply through the patient assistance programs provided by more than 100 US-based pharmaceutical manufacturers. Our aim is to keep medication prices affordable so people can focus on other important things.

Our clients never have to worry about hidden fees. Our pricing model is transparent and stress free! When approved, eligible patients pay a fixed monthly service fee of $80–$110, depending on the number of medications they receive:

  • 1 Medication (NovoLog only) – $80 per month
  • 2 Medications (NovoLog + 1 other) – $90 per month
  • 3 Medications (NovoLog + 2 others) – $100 per month
  • 4+ Medications – $110 per month

We also charge a one-time enrollment fee of $35. Our service is month-to-month, so if you’re unhappy with it, you may cancel at any time. The Rx Advocates is not a prescription discount card, insurance plan, or coupon but rather a means of accessing medications at an affordable price through patient assistance programs.

NovoLog coupon limitations

While a NovoLog coupon can provide some immediate savings, there are several limitations to consider:

  • Some NovoLog coupons can be used only a limited  number of times. For example, a coupon may be valid only for the first few prescriptions.
  • NovoLog coupons may be available for a limited time and often have expiration dates.
  • NovoLog coupons have a limited scope of use. Some are valid only at specific pharmacies, which can be frustrating if you must travel long distances to reach them.
  • Due to a copay accumulator attached to your insurance plan, a coupon might not count toward your out-of-pocket maximum. This means you may still have to pay a significant portion of the cost.

The cost of NovoLog without patient assistance

As of January 2024, the average retail cost of NovoLog is $86.39.

NovoLog’s price varies, however, depending on:

  • The insulin dosage
  • The patient’s location
  • The pharmacy’s location
  • The patient’s health insurance provider (or whether they have one)

The financial challenges of high medication costs can be overwhelming. Our team at The Rx Advocates understands your financial situation, and we want to help you find a solution. We are skilled at completing applications for patient assistance programs, which grant consistent access to prescription drugs at significantly lower out-of-pocket cost than offered by a coupon.

NovoLog uses, alternatives, and other FAQs

NovoLog, generic name insulin aspart, is an injectable medication that treats high blood glucose (sugar) in people with type 1 or 2 diabetes. It can be used by both adults and pediatric patients. NovoLog is a rapid-acting synthetic version of human insulin that can lower mealtime blood sugar spikes. It takes about 15 minutes to take effect, has maximum strength at one hour, and its blood glucose lowering effect lasts for another two to four hours.

People with diabetes cannot produce enough insulin, so repeated insulin injections are part of their treatment course. Insulin works by moving sugar from the blood into other body tissues, such as muscle and brain cells, where it is used for energy. This movement of sugar from the blood to tissues causes blood glucose levels to decrease. Diabetic users have seen great results when taking NovoLog together with a long-acting insulin.

Before taking this medication, you should inform your doctor of the other medicines you are taking, particularly those used to treat diabetes. Here are some things to consider before taking NovoLog:

  • If you have a history of allergic reactions to insulin, NovoLog is not a safe choice, as it contains insulin.
  • Always perform blood glucose monitoring before using this drug. If your blood sugar is low or within normal range, taking NovoLog puts you at risk for hypoglycemia, which can be life-threatening.
  • NovoLog is not FDA approved for use in pediatric patients under age two.
  • Some oral diabetic medications taken in combination with insulin can increase the risk of developing heart disease. Consult with your doctor if you are taking pioglitazone or rosiglitazone (which are sometimes combined with glimepiride or metformin).
  • NovoLog takes effect quickly, so ensure that you have something to eat 5–10 minutes after use.
  • Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how your body reacts to NovoLog.
  • Ask your doctor for advice about the normal blood glucose levels you should aim for. Discuss a diet plan and how your meals and activity level affect your blood sugar.
  • NovoLog is available in vial or pen form. Dosage may need to be adjusted based on tested blood sugar levels. Consult with your doctor to ensure you understand how to properly use your NovoLog prescription.

NovoLog is not for everyone. There are alternate insulin therapy options worth considering to control diabetes in children and adults:

If you are allergic to insulin or concerned about the repeated injections required to take NovoLog, there are non-insulin oral alternatives that you can use to control your high blood glucose:

Adverse effects of NovoLog

Although NovoLog is generally well tolerated, like all medications, some adverse effects may occur.

Common adverse effects of Novolog

The common adverse effects of NovoLog are usually mild and often resolve over time as the body becomes accustomed to the drug. They include:

  • Back pain
  • Low potassium in the blood
  • Injection site reactions, such as swelling or bruising
  • Weight gain
  • Body aches and pains
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Diarrhea

Serious adverse effects of NovoLog

Although uncommon, NovoLog may cause some serious adverse effects. You should inform your doctor immediately and seek help if you experience the following:

  • Signs of serious allergic reaction, such as an itchy rash all over your body, trouble breathing, a quick heartbeat, feeling like you might lose consciousness, and swelling of your hands, face, throat, or tongue
  • Extreme sweating
  • Severe hypoglycemia

Frequent blood glucose monitoring must be done to ensure an effective insulin regimen, limit risk of serious side effects, and prevent overdose. Insulin overdose can lead to severe hypoglycemia. Watch out for these critical signs:

  • Prolonged drowsiness
  • Confusion
  • Blurred vision
  • Numbness or tingling in the mouth
  • Trouble speaking
  • Muscle weakness
  • Clumsy or jerky movements
  • Seizure
  • Loss of consciousness
