  • 4+ Medications – $110 per month

The Rx Advocates is not a health insurance plan, copay assistance program, or Tremfya coupon provider. We are a team dedicated to helping people access the life-saving medications they need without financial burden. By helping you apply for the Tremfya patient assistance program, we can significantly reduce your out-of-pocket costs, which is especially valuable if your health insurance plan lacks coverage for prescription drugs.

The cost of Tremfya without an adequate health insurance plan

As of December 2024, the average retail cost of Tremfya is $13,843.00.

Tremfya is one of the most expensive prescription drugs on the market. Its high cost is primarily due to the drug’s pricey research and development, as it is a new and complex biological medication. Other cost-influencing factors include your location, the pharmacy’s location, and whether your health insurance plan offers prescription drug coverage. Though the average American cannot afford this drug, our team can help you access Tremfya through a patient assistance program that makes it more budget friendly.

Limitations of a Tremfya coupon

Tremfya coupons may seem like a quick and easy solution for reducing medication costs, but they come with many limitations. Given the high cost of Tremfya, coupons cannot make it affordable for the average person. Here are some potential coupon drawbacks to consider:

  • Coupons often restrict where and how they can be used. For example, a coupon might be valid only at participating retail pharmacies or for a limited time. Some cover the first month’s prescription but are not valid for refills.
  • Due to a copay accumulator attached to your health insurance plan, you may have to pay the full cost of the medication, as a coupon may not count toward your insurance’s out-of-pocket maximum.
  • Coupons become invalid once they expire and typically have a short time frame for use, requiring you to find other ways to cut costs on future prescriptions.
  • Even with a coupon, the price of Tremfya will likely remain high, and your insurance may not provide adequate coverage. Coupons can only do so much when a medication is expensive.
  • To benefit from coupon savings, people often must physically visit a pharmacy to present the coupon to the pharmacist. This can be difficult for those elderly or bedridden.
  • People who receive benefits from some state healthcare programs, such as defense health coverage (TRICARE), may not qualify to use coupons for further drug assistance.

Tremfya uses, alternatives, and other FAQs

Guselkumab, brand name Tremfya, is prescribed for the management of certain autoimmune diseases, such as moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, in people who are candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy because topical treatments have proved unsuccessful. It is also prescribed for those who have active psoriatic arthritis.

Tremfya is a biologic prescription drug, which means it is made from proteins. It works by suppressing the immune system. This medication is available as an injection that is administered subcutaneously (under the skin) in areas like the upper arm, thigh, and buttocks. Following the first injection, a second is given four weeks later, and then injections are given every eight weeks for as long as the prescribing doctor recommends. Tremfya is not safe for use in children.

Apart from its FDA-approved uses, Tremfya is being researched for treating Crohn’s disease, a type of inflammatory bowel disease. Research on Tremfya as a treatment for ankylosing spondylitis is currently in progress.

People taking prescription drugs should be mindful of the precautions and warnings associated with their medications. If you are being treated with Tremfya, note the following:

  • Because Tremfya is an immunosuppressive drug, it weakens the immune system, placing users at greater risk of infection. Upper respiratory infections (i.e., the common cold) and fungal skin infections (i.e., athlete’s foot) are commonly reported by users.
  • Those with an active tuberculosis infection should not take Tremfya. Your healthcare team will test you for tuberculosis before starting you on Tremfya.
  • You cannot receive a live vaccine while on Tremfya.
  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant, as it is unknown if Tremfya will harm a developing fetus or breastfeeding baby.
  • While Tremfya’s effectiveness is not influenced by alcohol, alcohol consumption increases inflammation in the body and can worsen severe plaque psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. It is thus best to avoid alcohol.

If Tremfya is not the best choice for you, here are a few alternative medications you can discuss with your doctor:

Adverse effects of Tremfya

Common adverse effects of Tremfya

All prescription drugs can cause adverse effects. While most are mild, others can be life-threatening. Common mild adverse effects of Tremfya include the following:

  • Headache
  • Upper respiratory infections, such as the common cold and nasopharyngitis
  • Joint pain
  • Itching infections (e.g., fungal skin infections like ringworm and athlete’s foot)
  • Stomach flu, which causes diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and decreased appetite
  • Injection site reactions (e.g., swelling, bruising, and pain)
  • Herpes simplex infections (e.g., cold sores and genital herpes)
  • Increased liver enzymes (which are typically revealed by routine blood tests)

Severe adverse effects of Tremfya

Although rarely reported, Tremfya can cause severe adverse effects. If you experience any of the following, seek emergency medical attention immediately:

  • Serious allergic reactions, such as swelling of the face, eyes, hands, and throat; difficulty swallowing; trouble breathing; and skin rash
  • Serious or recurrent infections, such as pneumonia
  • Tuberculosis reactivation, which may manifest as cough, weight loss, severe fatigue, and night sweats, and if untreated, can lead to more serious conditions, such as meningeal, disseminated, or extrapulmonary tuberculosis
  • Symptoms of gastrointestinal perforation, which include sudden intense abdominal pain, fever, and bloody stool
